Painting in Wales
By a little bridge
Mixed Media on paper
Drawing and painting from the landscape has for many years formed the inspiration for most of my work. The transitions from sky, sea and land creates space, shapes and divisions. It is these and the colours and texture of rock, earth and water that I try to convey in my painting.
My work has evolved from studies and photographs taken while walking and climbing in the Wye Valley near to home, or roaming the remote mountains, deserts and jungles of the world. However the Atlantic Coast of Cornwall and Wales increasingly draws me back to paint the effect of light on the surf and rocks.
Working in watercolour and mixed media on paper or canvas, I am excited by the rich variations of colour and texture obtainable by combining these different medias with printmaking and other processes to build layers and depth of colour to my work.
It is through the continuing process of experimentation and trying to capture those elusive moments in time and of nature, when all the elements come together and inspire me. Capturing the sprit of the landscape and providing the motivation to look and see into our world.
